 Donor MGB-GT

One of the conditions of me starting this project was that I couldn't have a scrap car on the drive whilst stripping the donor components. I therefore opted for a "Donor-in-a-Box" from the MGB-Hive. After giving them the specification that I required (early '70s, 5 Main Bearing Engine, 4 Synchro Gearbox, Overdrive and Steel wheels) they managed to find me this suitable MGB-GT from their field, and for the all inclusive price stripped the parts that I needed according to a donor parts list for the TF. I was always planning on using wire wheels however by using the steel wheel axle with wire wheel hubs the rear is a little wider than standard and fills the wheel arches better.

The engine turned out to be a gold seal replacement engine prefix 48G. This meant that it was based on an 18GG engine. When I came to recondition it it already had liners fitted so I couldn't open it up to .060" oversize as liners can only be bored to 0.030". The bores were already at this size so just a little honing was required.

The other major parts were in fairly good condition, just needing to be blasted and painted with black hammerite.
