Welcome To My NG TF Kit Car Build

This site is still under development. New photographs and pages are being added all the time. Please bear with me during contruction

Way back in 1996 I was looking for a new project to keep me busy and I thought the idea of building a car sounded like a good challenge. I bought some magazines and visited the Stoneleigh Kit Car show in Warwickshire.

I met John Hoyle, the then current owner of NG Cars and very quickly decided that the NG TF was the one for me. It was based on an MGB so parts would be readily available and relatively cheap. Also the style of build meant that I could build the car in stages in a single garage, buying the chassis first and the body and other parts when ready. This meant that I didn't have the problem of storing large components until ready for them to go onto the car. The kit also seemed to be of good quality and whilst not the cheapest kit on the market, it was certainly affordable.

For one reason or another, mainly spending all of my available money on a career change, the project was never started and went on the back burner.

In 2006 I started working nearer to home and had spare time and money and thought that now was a good time to start. The car had gone through various changes in the 10 years, notably SVA approval and 2 new owners of the company. Now owned by Findhorn Cars I contacted the Owner, Nigel Brooks, ordered a build manual and the project was underway. I have no formal training in car maintenance or mechanical work of any kind, and haven't worked on a car since my late teens, but I can read, and although the build manual leaves a lot to the imagination in places, the Haynes manual for the MGB doesn't and between them both I felt confident enough to tackle the project.

The plan was to clean up the donor parts, buy the chassis and assemble the MGB parts to that, add the bodywork and then finish with the electrics, windscreen, paintwork, wheels etc.

I hope you find this build log inspiring and recommend that you give it a go. It is very rewarding and satisfying to see parts all go together
